Somerset Day

Somerset Day will take place on 11 May, in honour of King Alfred the Great.
It celebrates “all that is great” about the “wonderful county” of Somerset.

Black Swan Arts Open 2014

Black Swan Arts Open 2014 opened today, December 6th.

My work, “Chasing Shadows” was selected as one of the exhibition showpiece.

Chasing Shadows

Black Swan Arts Open 2014

This piece is Hand Woven Japanese paper yarn fabric with Origami folding.
I could create series of shadows with the folding.

As you may see, my work is rather unique in this exhibition.
I’m glad the judge panel regarded this piece as an art, set aside the hot discussion “What is Art? and What is Craft?”
Also I would be honored to be selected among more than 500 submissions.

The selectors have chosen over one hundred pieces for the Open Exhibition, from a record 547 submissions and we would like to thank all those who have entered. This national competition is in its 12th year and we have received a tremendous variety of works across a broad range of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, print, photography, jewellery and animation.

Arts Open 2014Please come along and vote your favourite. And some donation is more than welcome.
This gallery needs your support.

My article is on The Journal for Weavers, Spinners and Dyers, 2014 Summer issue.
The copy arrived yesterday.
They gave me 4 pages with big images. It looks fantastic!
I’m very pleased and proud of myself. This is the story of my journey with paper yarn.

Lovely ladies and their great achievements

I used to take some “Spinning, Weaving And Dyeing” classes organized by Somerset Skills and Leaning.
I had a great time with lovely ladies who had the same passion. The tutor, Mary, always shows her wide knowledge and gives great support for her students’ challenging projects.
I left her class many years ago but I popped in sometimes to have a joyful chatting with them.

Yesterday I visited their exhibition.
So many great achievements!!!

Colour hunting _ Autumn Garden

No more flowers in our garden. Yet it’s still full of colours.

autumn_garden1I took these photos from the balcony. The left one with sunshine in the morning and the right is with rain in the afternoon. Camera eyes are deceptive?

我が家の庭はすっかり「秋の装い」 散りゆく前の最後の宴。
同じ葉なのに・・・ カメラの目は騙されやすいようです。

autumn_garden2And I did collage on photoshop.

autumn_garden3The program called ‘color hunter‘ picks up 5 colours from the image.

And this is my translation of autumn colours from our garden.
